In 2014 I had the opportunity to meet Harry Häussel (Haussel Pickups - www.haeussel.com) at the Holy Grail Guitar Show (see interview below). Harry is a renowned manufacturer of electric guitar pickups whose products are used by Ruokangas, Nik Huber and Springer.
At each major guitar event like the Musikmesse or the Holy Grail, Harry was present and we always took time to discuss.

On the weekend of October 8th and 9th 2016 will be held the 3rd edition of the Holy Grail Guitar Show, a luthier salon organized by luthiers via the EGB (european association of guitar makers) and for luthiers : 135 selected guitar makers will be in Germany to showcase their instruments.
Whether you are into acoustic guitars, electric, archtops, modern, vintage inspired, etc., you will be in for a treat for your eyes and your ears as it is possible to try all the instruments and see them played by professional musicians.
As for the first two editions of the show, The Guitar Channel will be on site to conduct interviews of these luthiers and musicians and to make you live from inside this unique event.

Here's the Gear Evening debrief. On February 18th, the first Special Event of the year took place with the Gear Evening with Maurice Dupont (luthier), FX amps (guitar amps), Anasounds (boutique pedals) and Verspieren (insurance).

Here's a video to give you an idea of this first Gear Evening of 2016. The first part of the video will show you the event while it is being setup and during. The second part of the video is composed of short interviews in French of people present for the event.
In the Snapchat app you have to keep a finger on the red button to record so unless you are an alien with a 3rd arm or you have a buddy around to take the snap while you play, you can't do it.

NAMM 2016 Day 1 – The Guitar Channel report

NAMM 2016 Day 1: go! The great annual show of the industry of music instruments and peripheral industries (sound system, wiring, interface, etc.) opened for its winter edition at the Anaheim Convention Center. Indeed the US NAMM comes in two flavors: the Winter NAMM who is held in Los Angeles and the Summer NAMM held in Nashville.
The NAMM is as big as last year, no big change on that part. Some booths are bigger from one year to the other and the opposite for others.

Snapchat is a cool social network tool you can use to get some short video and photo update about things which matters to you such. Very important feature of Snapchat: all the content posted in the app disappear after 24h max. One of the limitation of the service is that there's no mechanism to discover relevant people inside the app. You have to find them one by one, there's no search engine, no hashtag, nothing.

Maurice Dupont is one of the great gentleman of the French lutherie. He manufactures guitars surrounded by a team in his workshop near Cognac in France. Well known for his type of gypsy guitar, his production covers a much wider spectrum from classical guitar to solid-body through its famous Manouche guitar or jazz oriented instruments.

Creation of the Spanish luthier association: the CSGB, Contemporary Spanish Guitar Builders

I have recently received a mail from Francisco Rodriguez, luthier for FranFret Guitars, where he told me about the creation of the CSGB, a new association in Spain to gather all the guitar builders, similar to what the EGB (www.europeanguitarbuilders.com) is doing at the European level and the APLG (www.aplg.fr) in France. I wish the this new association all the best for the future.

Yesterday I had the pleasure to spend the afternoon in the private showroom of Gibson France to discover the 2016 range of acoustic guitars from Gibson. For this event two people from the US Acoustic Division were present, Josh Taborski (General Manager) and Jeremy Morton (Product Specialist), see the interview below.

I recently had the opportunity to play a real 1960 Sunburst Les Paul thanks to Matthieu Lucas, a French collector. It gave me the idea to read again The Beauty of the Burst, a book I received a while ago. My first reading was more concentrated on the great pictures of the book, you can really spend hours gazing at all those beauties.
