It was during my first trip to Japan for the Sound Messe Osaka in 2019 that I discovered luthier Makoto Fukano and his work via his brand Freedom Custom Guitar Research (fcgrtokyo.com). This Japanese craftsman is based in Tokyo, both for the showroom shown here and for his workshop (see the visit in another episode).
In this first part of the report, I take you on a tour of his showroom in the north of the city. Makoto presents his models, which I then try out on his dream amps:
- a 1964 Princeton
- a Tone King first period
- a Dr Z which used to belong to Steve Miller
- a 1972 Marshall 50W (which made a strong and loud impression on me)
