Stereo live streaming on Facebook with a Presonus Studiolive 16.0.2 USB

Stereo live streaming on Facebook with a Presonus Studiolive 16.0.2 USB

Attention, here is an article for the audio geeks!

Problem

I do live broadcast on Facebook every week and I wanted to broadcast in stereo. Problem: the console Presonus Studiolive 16.0.2 USB is seen on my MacBook only with as the first two inputs of the console, I am unable to get the stereo mix to broadcast it.

So, until now I bypassed the problem in switching the broadcast software (OBS, obsproject.com) to mono.

Software solution

After much research I did not find anything to change the internal USB audio routing on MacOS. So I found a soft solution called Loopback from Rogue Amoeba for changing USB audio routing.

See the image below.

It works but it adds a bit of latency of course. And the app costs $ 120.

Hardware resolution

After further research, I come across a post in English from a Czech guy in the forum Presonus who has encountered the same problem and who has solved it by doing something really weird: connect the left and right output of the console on the inputs 1 and 2 with cables.

Well it works! That's how I did the first stereo broadcast test this afternoon.

First live stereo "quick & dirty" on Facebook

A note that in the live below broadcast on Facebook and uploaded to YouTube, the volume of the guitar is too loud and saturated a little bit of time. The output volume was set too loud in the broadcast software used (OBS).

For info all the guitar sounds of the video above come from the Fractal Audio AX8 pedalboard which will be discussed again very soon ...

Until the next article, keep playing the guitar!

Pierre Journel.
