Gildas from Dolmen Effects (dolmen-effects.fr) hits hard again with this distortion pedal that offers no less than 13 versions of the legendary Proco Rat with its Hermine. Spoiler alert: it sounds huge!
Hermine Dolmen Effects pedal review
Audio version available on The Guitar Channel Radio
What I enjoyed the most
- The big sound
- The efficiency of the settings
- The very low noise level
What I enjoyed the least
- Volume differences from one Rat mode to another
Conclusion
The Hermine is made to scream! It sends very quickly big sound but it remains however very dynamic. The sound is never too compressed.
I really liked the efficiency of the tone control, from 0 to 100%, the sound obtained is usable. You can go from ultra agressive to super smooth. With the Filter at 100% you will have to correct the volume a bit because you lose quite a bit of volume level.
Whatever the gain level, the noise level is very low. Even with the switch on the Hot position, it is impressive. We find there, the quality of manufacture Dolmen Effects.
I did not play with the internal settings to access the other versions of the Rat. With the 3 versions available on the top plus the Warm / Hot mode, we already have a lot to do.
Note that the Hermine works very well with single coil pickups, which is not always the case with distos. The sound with the Paisley Strat is excellent.
If you are into big distorted sound, this Hermine is for you.
Until the next gear review or interview, keep on playing the guitar!
Pierre Journel.
