Simplifier Zero Watt DSM & Humboldt guitar preamp review

Simplifier Zero Watt DSM & Humboldt Analog Guitar Preamp Review

The Simplifier Zero Watt from the Chilean brand DSM & Humboldt (simplifieramp.com) is a fully analog guitar preamp that offers the three standard tube amp types. So we find the Fender Blackface sound, the VOX AC30 sound and finally the Marshall Plexi sound.

The unit has a very small footprint since it is just the size of a standard Boss pedal. Equipped with a multitude of settings and a very complete connection system, including a stereo effect loop, this preamplifier is a real winner.

But the surprises do not stop at the preamp part since it also offers a simulation of speakers (1x12, 2x12 and 4x12) and microphone placement. And it also has the luxury to do it in stereo!

Conclusion

The sound of this South American preamplifier is awesome! The Fender sound is excellent whether it is ultra clean or light crunch. The VOX simulation brings the chime sound which is so characteristic.

On the Marshall side it also works very well but the gain doesn't really go up high. I would have liked to have some more but nothing prevent you from boosting with a pedal in front.

The manufacturing quality is very nice. It looks solid. The settings are efficient and precise. The compactness of the whole system sometimes makes the changes a little tricky but it is manageable.

On the connections side, we are well served since in addition to the inevitable guitar jack input there is also a stereo effect loop (perfect to insert a reverb for example) and an auxiliary input.

On the output side, it's also a treat with 4 stereo outputs, 2 in XLR and 2 in jack format. The headphone output is also present and works great. The two jack outputs have switches to adapt the audio routing.

It's hard not to like the Simplifier preamp! You plug in, you quickly adjust the sound you want and... you play.
