The Guitar Channel is the Netflix of guitar, only better. I say it all the time, but it's still true in 2024!
To explain the phrase if I had to: it's Netflix because you have to be a paying subscriber to access the exclusive content, it's better because the subscription also allows you to benefit from the Backstage Gear Tours and to come to the showroom by appointment.
However, the strategy for accessing content will change from autumn 2024 onwards.
Free access to the Gear Reviews
In fact, all the Gear Reviews will be freely accessible from now on.
All the rest of the videos, which make up the bulk of the catalog, remain reserved for paying subscribers. This means that interviews, reports and chronicles will remain behind the paywall.
I decided to make this change for several reasons:
- To increase the visibility of guitar builders, both those who have subscribed and those who haven't yet
- To simplify relations with brands and distributors, who didn't always understand the notion of a paid subscription
- To encourage users to explore the rest of the content, and therefore to subscribe
This change will be made progressively, as changes need to be made on the YouTube channel for each video as well as for each article.
Free but always independent
Access to Gear Reviews will therefore become increasingly widespread, but these videos will always be made independently.
Unlike many professional youtubers, some of whom produce excellent content, I've never charged for shooting a gear video, and I never will.
It's me and me alone who decides to make a video about a guitar, an amp, a pedal or any other piece of hardware or software. The same goes for the builders who subscribe to La Chaîne Guitare.
