Paul Gilbert masterclass – How to play around the neck – Guitar Summit 2019

Paul Gilbert was one of the headliners of Guitar Summit 2019, he gave a great concert and hosted two masterclasses like the one you can see below. You can see him expose a simple and great idea to move a shape around the neck of the guitar.

The principle

  • Take a pattern of 2 or 3 notes on the 2 bigger strings.
  • To play it 2 strings higher and an octave above, you just have to shift the hand by 2 frets using the same pattern
  • You can repeat the trick on the next 2 strings by shifting 3 frets this time.

There you go ! You have a "recipe" very simple and easy to navigate across the neck.

Listen to what Paul is doing in the video, it's pretty cool.
